Update

Well I almost died at practice this morning. Our coaches decided to have practice at 8 and it is entirely too hot. And only two girls showed up. We have 7 signed up right now I think. 2 are on vacation, 1 has work, 2 are freshmen who I think we scared away at the first practice (oops), me, and 1 who is running because her boyfriend ran before he graduated. Honestly, I don't like her that much just because she's dating him, but I have respect for anyone who is going to come run even though her boyfriend isn't going to be there this season.  We had a lot of guys show up today though! I got to run with my favorite senior, Garrett, for most of the workout. It wasn't completely awful, it was just tiring and hot. And my brilliant self forgot to bring water.
I'm leaving Saturday for vacation, and I'm not going to have anyone to run with while I'm gone :( I can get the workout from my coach but it's not the same. I'm completely determined to hit 23:00 though so I'm going to do my absolute best on my own and try my hardest to find someone to run with.
I'm actually looking forward to doing some time trials and speed workouts soon. I miss pushing myself to hit a goal. Me  and Garrett raced the last 50 meters or so of our run today, and it was so amazing. I felt like I was flying. Has anyone ever noticed that a race seems so much longer when you're the one running it? 50 meters took forever, but it was so exhilarating.
I'm so excited for the season to start. Races are so fun and full of adrenaline. I'm excited to put in the work over the summer too though. I haven't had any pain so far (I get bad shin splints once I start running regularly) and mom ordered my shin sleeves today, so I'm hoping to get through this season without having to sit out any practices.
Really though, my biggest issue last year was probably my grades. They kept dropping low, especially in math, and I missed too many days. I usually didn't get my make up work done on time so I got put on the 'no pass, no play' list for a week and missed one of the biggest meets. This year though, I only have 1 class period that isn't an actual class, and that's my hour for athletics. So I really can't slip up this year because I refuse to miss any meets.
Okay, I think I'm running out of things to talk about, so I'll update next time something interesting happens (it could be a while).

Morning Runs and Freshmen

So I pulled an all-nighter last night, and I've now been up for around 33 hours. Since I was up, I went ahead and ran this morning, just an easy 2 miles. It was really slow, somewhere around 22 minutes (!!) but I've decided that my morning runs for the next few weeks will be to build up to more distance, instead of stressing myself out over times and pace. I know this is all super slow but I had a good track season and I think I'm still in reasonably good shape, so I just want to work on the basics (form especially)  before I start doing crazy mileage weeks and workouts. Although there will be plenty of both in due time :)
I convinced one of my freshmen friends to come to a cross country practice on Tuesday, and we're going for a run tomorrow so I can show her the few spots to run on campus. I can't wait for this season! I think that's all for now. I'll update tomorrow after our run :)

Cross Country

Ok so for some reason it never occurred to me that there could be blogs just about running, but this may be the 2nd greatest thing I've ever found on the internet (Twitter being first of course) I mean, what runner doesn't like talking about running? And it's hard to find someone who cares, or is even willing to pretend to care while we ramble on. My cross country season starts in August, and summer practices just kicked off on Thursday. My goal for the season is to break 23:00 for my 5k. My PR last season was 28:05 so it's not unreasonable, but it's going to take work. And I'm more than ready and willing to put that work in :)  I've been slacking a little, so the next few weeks will mostly be to get back in shape, and then the fun stuff will start. That's all I can think to put right now, but I'll be posting about workouts, probably complaining about some teammates, and definitely be getting excited about progress.
